My Approach

At Confidence In Birth, we approach newborn care through a baby-centered lens—asking, “What is this experience like for the baby, and how can we best support them?”
And we hold the truth that matters most: there isn’t one “right” way to care for or feed your baby—there are many loving, responsive ways.

If you’ve noticed that everyone has an opinion—family, friends, social media, even well-meaning professionals—you’re not alone. Preparing for early parenting can bring up a lot of questions… and a lot of noise.

This class is a reset.

What you’ll learn :

This is practical, baby-led education—covering cues, sleep, feeding, and early adjustment to life with a newborn.

We’ll cover:

  • How newborns are wired: appearance, capabilities, and needs in the early weeks
  • Cues + communication: how your baby “talks” with their body, breath, and behavior (and how to respond)
  • Soothing tools (calm your baby, calm yourselves): hands-on strategies + what to expect
  • Swaddling, holding, diapering, burping: real-life basics you’ll actually use (with guided practice)
  • Feeding patterns + needs: what’s typical, what varies, and how to reduce the “Am I doing this wrong?” spiral
  • Sleep + safe sleep environment: rhythms, expectations, and gentle ways to encourage rest
  • Fourth trimester needs: your baby’s needs and the family system’s needs

The Deeper Why

Babyhood is not a “phase to get through.” It’s a sensitive window of development—and the first three years are especially foundational for brain development, emotional health, and future wellbeing.

That’s why we keep returning to connection as the throughline:

  • Your baby’s nervous system is learning, “Am I safe? Am I welcome? Will someone come?”
  • Your nervous system is also adapting—because you are becoming someone new, too. What a powerful time of potential for the growing family!

And yes—bonding begins before birth. Babies can respond to voices in pregnancy, and that early familiarity matters.

As an RN, childbirth educator, and IBCLC lactation consultant, I teach newborn care through one simple lens: What is the world like from your baby’s point of view? In those first weeks—when everything is brand new—babies communicate with their bodies, their cues, and their nervous systems long before they have words. My approach is rooted in nurture neuroscience and relationship-based care, blending practical hands-on skills with the deeper “why” that helps you trust yourself: your calm, your presence, and your responsiveness are powerful biology. You won’t hear a list of “the right ways” in my classes—only thoughtful guidance, evidence-informed options, and a steady, supportive space to make choices that fit your baby and your family.
